An interview with the founders of Sophia Rose Intimates: What’s next for the brand and more

Get to know our founders a little better. Here we talk about what inspired the young entrepreneurs, what’s next for the brand and, of course, their biggest guilty pleasures.

What inspired you to start Sophia Rose Intimates?

Sophia Rose Intimates was inspired by our mom! She couldn’t find a supportive bra that made her feel beautiful after she had a double mastectomy. Her experience with breast cancer made us realize that there were limited beautiful lingerie options for breast cancer survivors. It just didn’t seem right that breast cancer survivors had to shop for specialty bras that looked like a medical device and so we decided to create an innovative, supportive, and beautiful wireless bra that can be worn by both women who are breast cancer survivors and by women who want the comfort of a beautiful wire-free bra!

How did you come up with the design and why is it good for breast cancer survivors and women who have had mastectomies? 

We came up with the design of our Sophia Wireless Bra by finding inspiration from beautiful lace bras, asking breast cancer survivors what they wanted to see in a bra and finally testing many samples and versions on women who have had mastectomies, breast reconstruction and industry standard fit models to make sure that our bra has the perfect fit. It was also very important for us to make a quality bra that would last and so we went to the largest lingerie tradeshow to source the finest laces and fabrics. We made sure that our bra would be soft, breathable and comfortable for breast cancer survivors and women who have undergone a mastectomy.

What advice would you give to other women entrepreneurs that you wish you knew when you started Sophia Rose?

There are many things that we wish we would have known but on the top of our list would be knowing the importance of clever social media marketing, being PR savvy and telling anyone and everyone about what you’re doing and your brand! You never know who you are talking to you and how it could help you move things forward!

What can customers expect from the upcoming designs that haven't launched yet?

We cannot wait to debut a new line of beautiful basics from our next collection! We have kept our supportive, wireless features of our current bra that our customers love and combined it with a gorgeous new lace with smooth cups that will be available in two colors!

What are your top 3 tips to stay healthy?

Adelene:

  1. I go to flow yoga once a week for a good stretch and workout.
  2. I try to cook a balanced meal from raw ingredients (goodbye Oscar Meyer hotdogs) at least three times a week.
  3. I make it a point to take some time and do something completely unrelated to work for myself!

Carolyn:

  1.  Worry less (easier said than done – I know!)
  2.  Have a sit down dinner everyday
  3.  Being outdoors!
